Pioneer Woman Sausage Gravy


This recipe for sausage gravy poured over biscuits is delightfully straightforward, yielding a dish so satisfying that your loved ones will request it time and again. Perfect for any season or day of the week, it’s a hearty breakfast that’s easy to prepare. Pair it with eggs and perhaps a side salad for a complete and filling meal.

If you prefer, you can substitute the sausage with chicken, turkey, or even beef, though it won’t be the traditional Southern-style biscuit gravy.

Ingredients:

1 pound breakfast sausage (mild flavor)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
3 cups milk
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
Biscuits, either homemade or store-bought
Instructions:

Cook the Sausage: Crumble the sausage into a frying pan and cook until thoroughly browned. Remove the cooked sausage from the pan and set aside. Do not drain the fat from the pan.
Make the Gravy Base: To the pan with the sausage fat, add flour while continuously stirring with a whisk. Mix well to combine with the fat.
Season and Thicken: Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to the flour mixture. Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly. Continue cooking over medium heat until the mixture thickens into a gravy consistency.
Combine and Simmer: Return the cooked sausage to the gravy. Stir well to combine. Let the gravy simmer for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve: Serve the sausage gravy over warm biscuits and enjoy!
