Rep. Brandon Gill, a Texas Republican, introduced articles of impeachment against U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg for blocking deportation flights under the Alien Enemies Act. Gill accused Boasberg of overstepping his authority, arguing that the judge’s actions interfered with President Trump’s constitutional authority to protect the U.S. from foreign threats, specifically members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. The legal conflict began when Boasberg issued a restraining order halting deportations midair, following concerns from human rights groups that legitimate asylum seekers could be wrongly deported. Trump supported the impeachment effort, calling Boasberg a “Radical Left Lunatic” and claiming the judge was obstructing the will of the voters. The administration argued that the planes had already taken off before the judge’s order was issued, but Boasberg defended his decision, asserting that his powers applied even to planes in international airspace.Watch below
