Woman declared d.e.ad at hospital ‘comes back to life’ on way to her own funeral

Staff were horrified when finding she was alive and moving her fingers

An elderly woman who was pronounced d:ead at a hospital ‘came back to life’ while being transported to her own funeral. After her health took a turn for the worse, she was declared dec-eas-ed and moved from the mortuary to the Son Valenti funeral parlour in Palma, Majorca, in preparation for her burial.

Yet, staff were left stunned to discover that the woman had a pulse and even noticed movement in her fingers. Paramedics confirmed the elderly woman was alive and swiftly returned her to Juan March de Bunyola Hospital in the city.

Her current condition is yet to be disclosed, and an internal investigation has been launched in order to determine how her d:ea-th was mistakenly declared, according to the Daily Record.

This incident is similar to a case from February last year, where morgue workers were left petrified as a woman seemingly resurrected, showing movement inside a body bag.

The unidentified patient, exhibiting signs of severe malnutrition and no respiratory or brain activity, was declared d.e.ad.

Yet, after spending five hours inside a body bag at the San Juan de Dios General Hospital in Guatemala, she unexpectedly began to move. Morgue workers were taken aback when they hurried to inform doctors after discovering the woman was alive, leading to her readmission to the emergency room.

In spite of their best attempts to revive her, she showed no vital signs and was declared dead for the second time. The hospital has extended their deepest condolences to the family of a young woman who tragically d-ied during what they described as a ‘difficult period’ for her loved ones.

The details of the events causing her d:eath are still unclear, with no current public information on whether an official investigation has been conducted. A spokesperson for the hospital spoke of the patient’s critical condition when she was admitted, mentioning “severe malnutrition” alongside her struggles with seizures and cerebral palsy.

They said: “After 30 minutes of medical efforts, she was declared deceased and her body was transferred to the morgue as part of established protocol.” In an astonishingly similar case from last year in Texas, Sammy Berko, a 16-year-old, experienced cardiac arrest at a rock climbing facility and was declared dead at the scene.

Noneless, following relentless CPR for two hours, he miraculously survived. One of the doctors involved in his care later referred to him as a “literal miracle”.

Recalling the critical incident, Sammy’s mother, Jennifer, shared the harrowing moments: “He climbed to the top of the wall, rang the bell, as we were told, and then his body went limp, and it looked like he was either playing around or passed out. They weren’t quite sure and when they realised he was unresponsive, they lowered him slowly.”

Sammy’s family, already scarred by the loss of another child, Frankie, three years earlier, were given the chance for a private moment to say goodbye amid their overwhelming grief. Jennifer added: “I started talking to him, just telling him how much I love him and sorry that we didn’t know how to save him. Suddenly, as I started praying, my husband said, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s moving’.”

In the mean time, in another incident from June last year, Bella Montoya Castro, aged 76, was declared d-ea-d at a hospital in the southwest of Quito, Ecuador. However, during her funeral hours later, she unexpectedly awoke amid the proceedings.

Gilber Barberan, her son, disclosed that friends placing flowers on her coffin heard unfamiliar sounds coming from within. They soon realised it was indeed Bella who was producing the noises.
