Popular Chips Recalled in 13 U.S. States Due to Potential Health Risks

Frito-Lay has issued a voluntary recall of select 13-ounce bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips across 13 U.S. states. The recall is due to the potential presence of undeclared milk, posing a serious risk to individuals with milk allergies or sensitivities.

Details of the Recall

  • Product Affected: 13 oz. bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips
  • UPC Code: 28400 52848
  • Guaranteed Fresh Date: May 20, 2025
  • Manufacturing Codes: 471106504, 471106505, 471106506, or 471106507
  • States Affected: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia

The issue arose when some bags labeled as plain tortilla chips were found to contain nacho cheese-flavored chips, which include milk as an ingredient. This mislabeling can lead to severe allergic reactions in susceptible individuals.

Health Implications

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified this as a Class I recall, indicating a reasonable probability that the consumption of the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death for those with milk allergies.

Consumer Guidance

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised to:

  • Check the UPC code, guaranteed fresh date, and manufacturing code on the packaging.
  • Avoid Consumption if they have a milk allergy or sensitivity.
