On the early morning of Sunday, May 11, 2025, a devastating collision occurred on State Route 60 in Hacienda Heights, California, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to 32 others.
The incident involved a tour bus carrying 63 passengers and a stationary Nissan Pathfinder SUV.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Nissan SUV had become disabled in the westbound lanes of the freeway for reasons yet to be determined.
The tour bus, unable to avoid the stalled vehicle, collided with it, causing the SUV to burst into flames and trapping the sole occupant inside. Tragically, the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.
The force of the impact caused the tour bus to veer across multiple lanes before coming to rest against a guardrail on the right shoulder of the freeway. While the bus did not catch fire, 32 passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical. Two individuals were reported to be in critical condition and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Emergency responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived promptly, managing the chaotic scene and providing necessary medical assistance. The westbound lanes of State Route 60 were temporarily closed between Azusa Avenue and Hacienda Boulevard to facilitate the investigation and cleanup efforts.
The tour bus was en route from Indio to Koreatown in Los Angeles. The driver of the bus has been identified as Sui Sheng Du.
Authorities have stated that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash. The exact cause of the SUV’s breakdown remains under investigation. The CHP is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they continue to piece together the events leading up to this tragic accident.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel and the importance of vehicle maintenance and awareness. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
