Boy, 14, Sent Text to Mom Before Dying in a Mass Shooting at Apalachee High School

A tragic mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, claimed the life of 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn, who sent a final text to his mother from a restroom during the chaos. Mason, who was autistic, was one of four victims. His mother had believed he was safe until youth minister Ronald Clark, assisting at the scene, confirmed the devastating news.

Clark described Mason as joyful, kind, and beloved by all. Mason’s sister, Alanna Wallace, remembered him as loving and protective, saying she’s coping by embracing his positive spirit.

Other students also texted parents in fear during the shooting, highlighting the terror that unfolded. The community continues to mourn the heartbreaking loss.
