House Passes Bill Blocking Future Presidents From Banning Oil Drilling Without Congress’ Approval

House Passes Bill to Curb Federal Limits on Oil and Gas Drilling

The Republican-led House passed the Protecting American Energy Production Act on Friday in a 226-188 vote, aiming to block future presidents from banning fracking without congressional approval. All Republicans supported the bill, while 118 Democrats opposed it.

The legislation responds to Biden-era restrictions, including a ban on new drilling across 625 million acres of U.S. waters. Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), who introduced the bill, accused the Biden administration of waging a “war on energy” and catering to “woke environmental extremists.”

Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has launched reviews to roll back Biden-era climate policies seen as burdensome to energy development. The move aligns with Donald Trump’s renewed “drill, baby, drill” energy agenda.
