Trump Wants to Reopen Alcatraz for Violent Criminals
By Han tt – 04/05/2025

Donald Trump has proposed reopening Alcatraz to house violent repeat offenders. In a May 4 Truth Social post, he said he’s ordered federal agencies to expand the former prison as part of a broader crackdown on crime and immigration.

Alcatraz closed in 1963 due to high costs and now serves as a major tourist site. Critics, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi, dismissed the plan as unrealistic. The Bureau of Prisons says it will follow presidential directives.
