FDA Issues Warning Over Recalled Apricots Containing Undeclared Sulfites
Health officials are urging consumers to avoid Floria Dried Apricots from Turkana Food Inc., sold in nearly 20 states, due to dangerous levels of undeclared sulfites. The affected apricots, with a LOT number 440090478-15-333 and UPC 2539560010, expire in November 2026.
Sulfites are preservatives found in dried fruits and other foods, but they can trigger allergic reactions—especially in people with asthma. Symptoms may include hives, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, or even life-threatening reactions.
The recall follows a New York State inspection that found missing sulfite labeling on the packaging. No illnesses have been reported, but the FDA advises returning the product for a refund.
This recall follows a similar recent incident involving mislabeled Texas Pete hot sauce.
