Single Dads Share the Raw Truth Of Being the Only Parent

Stories about single dads have a special kind of charm. Some will have you laughing out loud, while others hit you in the heart. Raising a child alone is no easy task — these dads take on everything from daily routines to emotional talks without a partner to lean on. Their love and dedication are nothing short of inspiring.

Story 1

Once, while we were flying, my daughter leaned over and whispered, “Dad, I think I just got my period.” I gave her the emergency pad I always keep with me, and she hurried to the restroom. A few minutes later, the flight attendant came by and said, “Sir, your daughter asked if you have a real pad. She said you gave her a liner.”

I turned bright red — I didn’t even know there was a difference! Luckily, a kind woman sitting nearby offered her own. When my daughter returned, she thanked both of us and told me, “Next time, bring both.” And now I always do.

My best friend’s wife dropped their youngest child off at school one day and never came back. Ten years have passed, and the only contact has been through lawyers. She refuses to speak to him or the kids directly.

He says the hardest part wasn’t raising the kids alone — it was constantly having to explain to people why he was doing it alone. Even his own family questioned what he might have done to “make her leave.” © NotEvil_JustBritish / Reddit

Story 4

Every time I got home from work, my daughter would ask, “Did you bring me anything?” The only thing I could think of to get her was a wooden sword. It never even crossed my mind that she might want a doll or a dress. © NeverEnuf*** / Reddit

Story 5

After separating from my wife in 1994, I decided not to date because I didn’t want anything to take time away from my sons. Now they’re grown, but I’ve been single for so long that I doubt I’ll ever meet anyone. Dating has changed so much — I think I’m just meant to stay single. © Blissful_Relief / Reddit

Whenever I attend parent-teacher meetings with my ex-wife, the teachers almost always direct their comments and questions to her. It feels unintentionally disrespectful — like I’m invisible. © Unknown author / Reddit
