President Donald Trump defended Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday amid calls for his resignation after a leaked Signal chat revealed details of a U.S. strike in Yemen. The leak occurred when Hegseth accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor Jeffrey Goldberg, who later published the messages. Trump dismissed Democratic criticism, saying Hegseth “has nothing to do with this” and praised his performance. He said National Security Advisor Mike Waltz took responsibility for the mistake and questioned whether Signal “works properly,” calling the backlash “a witch hunt.” Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego demanded Hegseth’s resignation, calling him unqualified and warning the leak could have endangered U.S. troops.
