Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, pilot of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed near Ahmedabad, tragically died along with 240 others. A veteran with nearly 30 years of experience and over 8,200 flight hours, he was known for his quiet dedication and professionalism.
Before takeoff, he told his family he’d call upon landing in London—a call that never came. The 54-year-old had planned to spend time with his elderly father, a former DGCA official, and was one of nine crew members from Mumbai.
His death is deeply mourned by colleagues, who described him as diligent and humble. Among the victims was British national Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, whose calm final video at the airport has since gone viral.
