A 2023 survey by Bespoke Surgical explored how men across U.S. states report their penis size compared to reality. Drawing on 2020 research that found the average erect length to be 5.1–5.5 inches, the survey of over 1,300 men revealed a national self-reported average of 6.41 inches—suggesting some exaggeration.
Alabama led with the highest average at 7.44 inches, while Delaware reported the lowest at 5.22 inches. Louisiana men claimed the most—averaging 8.07 inches, nearly an inch more than their reported actual size. Delaware showed the biggest exaggeration gap at 1.30 inches.
Overall, 26% admitted to inflating their size (by ~0.98 inches), 12% understated it, and 62% were truthful. The study offered a humorous yet telling glimpse into male self-image—proving that honesty might just be the most appealing size of all.
