Obama-Appointed Judge Considering Contempt Charges Against Trump Officials

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg questioned Trump administration attorneys over potential violations of a court order blocking deportations under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. The case concerns the deportation of Venezuelan nationals, including suspected gang members, despite an injunction halting such actions. Boasberg expressed concerns about possible bad faith, citing deportations of over 100 Venezuelans on March 15, and pressed Deputy Assistant Attorney General Drew Ensign for details. The judge is considering contempt proceedings and will decide next week whether to pursue them.
