At Saint Mary’s Hospice, Big John, a biker visiting his dying brother, accidentally met Katie, a terminally ill 7-year-old abandoned by her parents. Moved by her fear of dying alone, he promised to stay with her—and soon rallied fellow bikers to keep her company. Katie called them “The Beard Squad,” drew them into her world, and even gave John the title “Maybe Daddy.”
In her final days, surrounded by her biker family, Katie found joy, forgiveness, and love. After her passing, John founded Lil Rider Hearts, a nonprofit bringing bikers to comfort terminally ill children—proof that family can be found in the most unexpected places.
